Márai Sándor testvérének, Radványi Gézának egyik legjobb külföldön készült filmje a Lányok egyenruhában, és az egyik első olyan film (tegyük hozzá, egy 1931-es film remake-je), ami ‒ a lehetőségekhez képest ‒ nyíltan beszél a lánynevelő intézetekről, arról, hogy ez az elzárt közösség milyen elfojtásokra kényszerít. Radványi a lányok egymás iránt érzett vonzalmát állítja a történet középpontjába. Az anyja halála után szigorú és rideg intézetbe került Manuela a nevelőnőjének vallja be, mit érez iránta. A botrány nem is marad el. Nemcsak a merész és fontos témaválasztás miatt érdekes számunkra most is ez a film, nemcsak a rendező személye miatt, hanem azért is, mert a ragyogó, minden jelenetét átlényegítő, Romy Schneider a főszereplője, akit ez a film emelt a jelentős filmszínészek közé a népszerű sztárok közül (hiszen a Sissi-filmek utáni évben készült).

Mädchen in Uniform is one of the best films of Géza Radványi, the brother of the writer Sándor Márai, one of the first films (let’s add, the remake of a film from 1931), which – by the accepted standards of the time – speaks openly about institutes for girls, about the suppression enforced upon them in such separated communities. It is a film focussing on the girls’ attraction towards each other. Transferred to a rigid and strict institute after her mother’s death, Manuela confesses to her tutor what she feels for her. The scandal will not fail to break out. Notwithstanding its bold and important subject, and the director’s person, this film remains of striking interest also because the splendid Romy Schneider is its heroine, glorifying each and every scene, and ascending in this film into the sphere of being the significant movie actor she was to be, from the stage of popular stardom (since it was made in the year after the Sisi films).
